Introduction

Located in the center of Asia, the world’s largest continent, lies a global region known as Central Asia, encompassing the republics of Kyrgyzstan , Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, , and Tajikistan. Though most geographers place Afghanistan in the Southwest Asia region – the region most familiarly known as the Middle East – it is often found listed among the countries of Central Asia, as well.
